Apple's boss of machine learning, Ian Goodfellow, whom Apple proudly pinched from Google a few years ago, has quit his job because of Apple's insistence he and other employees to return to the office. The more conspiracy theory minded might think it's because old mate's share options have kicked in, but it's not unreasonable to assume that Apple's plan of 3-days in, 2-days out, isn't exactly flexible like Apple make it out to be and instead of putting up with it, Mr. Goodfellow (who can basically get any job he likes) peaced out and left Apple's middle managers holding their dicks.
The SEC has fined Nvidia for failing to disclose "that cryptomining was a significant factor in year-over-year growth in the company's gaming revenue" for a few quarters in 2018, which "deprived investors of critical information to evaluate the company's business in a key market". For their obfuscation, Nvidia was fined a pissweak US$5.5m. The SEC probably intends for this to be a warning, not a punishment. Meanwhile, the folks at NiceHash have figured out a way to get around the anti-mining limiter placed on Nvidia's "Lite Hash Rate" graphics card variants.
A pet topic of mine during every election (and likely yours if you're reading this) is the NBN. This time around, both parties plan to increase access to gigabit speeds - 90% of the fixed-line footprint if the ALP win. 75% if the Coalition win. But what I want is cheaper internet. I'm paying $150/m for 1000/50 speeds, which on one hand, I'm blessed to have the option of, but on the other, is ridiculous compared to other countries. Even 100/40 (IMHO the minimum speed for normal households) is a whopping $80-$90/m. Forget about electricity and fuel pricing, my internet bill is the one that stings the most and nobody has a plan for reducing it.
