Logitech's CEO slips out forever mouse brainfart

Logitech's CEO was on a podcast with Nilay Patel from The Verge and dropped an anecdote about a "forever mouse", comparing a Logitech mouse to a Rolex watch that you'd buy once and use forever, but with "great software and services that you'd constantly update". It's massive MBA dogshit business brain vibes, but then Nilay asks "can you envision a subscription mouse?", to which the CEO says, "possibly". Nilay asks if that would be the "forever mouse" and the CEO says "yeah" and it's all downhill from there with brain farts about paying for monthly software updates to use the mouse, a diamond encrusted mouse and how Logitech needs to milk money out of it indefinitely. When I think forever mouse, I think something maybe $300-$500 that's easy to clean, repair and would last 20+ years. Give me that!

Donald Trump is the Bitcoin presidental candidate

Donald Trump gave a speech at a Bitcoin conference in Nashville over the weekend and said some dumber than usual stuff. If elected he would "keep 100% of all bitcoin the US government currently holds or acquires in the future... as a core of the strategic national bitcoin stockpile", create a "bitcoin and crypto advisory council" within his first 100 days in office, and make the USA the "crypto capital of the world". The crowd got very excited when he said "the persecution stops and the weaponization against your industry ends", pledging to fire the anti-crypto SEC chair, "promised to make regulations friendly to crypto mining operations in the US" and promised to free Ross Ulbricht, who is in prison for life due to his Silk Road shenanigans.

iStat Menus 7 is out and it is good

iStat Menus 7.0 is out of beta and has had a total visual overhaul, along with loads of new sensors and features. Thinking about the apps currently running on my Mac and how many years I've been using them for, it's hard to top iStat Menus. I've been using it since it was in beta all the way back in 2007 and it's still a must install on any Macs I use. I feel like something missing unless I can see my CPU, RAM and network statistics up in the menubar near the clock. The new version of iStat Menus is just $18, or $22 for a family license for use on up to five Macs. There's upgrade pricing ($15) for those of you on version 6 too. Aussie made software too, you love to see it!

Something I Saw On The Internet

Cloudflare looks at how the Olympics impacts internet traffic & IOC upholds copyright takedown tradition

Unless you've been living under a rock, you'll know that the Olympics is currently taking place in Paris. Cloudflare has a cute post with some graphs on how internet traffic on its network (it's a large network!) dropped between 16% and 20% during the opening ceremony. There's also a higher amount of DNS request traffic going to Olympic websites from Australia than either Canada or the UK. We love sport! Torrentfreak has a story about how militant the IOC is on taking down any videos, on any platforms, that aren't from its official broadcast partners, using court orders all over the world. In a world dominated by short form video, it feels like a missed opportunity for the Olympics to connect with an entire generation that lives and breathes organic viral video content.
