New National Science Statement and new National Science and Research Priorities

Australia's got a new National Science Statement and new National Science and Research Priorities, the first time they've been updated in 10 years. The five priorities are: transitioning to a net zero future, supporting healthy and thriving communities, elevating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledge systems, protecting and restoring Australia's environment, building a secure and resilient nation. The statements are: Australian scientists, science institutions, and infrastructure shaping Australia's science future. Science at the centre of Australian industry. A diverse, skilled workforce to underpin the translation of science into new industries. Embracing science to drive Australia's regional and global interests. A science system prepared for future challenges. Cool - now what?

DEF CON badge creator ripped off stage over payment disagreement

Bit of drama in the l33t hAx0r world with Dmitry Grinberg and Entropic Engineering, creators of the fancy badges given to attendees of DEF CON in Las Vegas, got physically pulled off stage during a panel he was uninvited to for refusing to leave, as a protest against not being paid for his work on the badge. DEF CON reckons Entropic went over budget and Dmitry asked to be taken off stage so they did that to keep the panel going, but Entropic says DEF CON never told them this until they had already done all the work. Sounds like a damn mess that could have been prevented with improved communication and oversight.

Something I Saw On The Internet

Tippy Type keyboard cover might help those with long finger nails type easier

Whenever I see someone with really long fingernails my first thought is "must be a challenge to wipe your arse with those claws". My second thought is "how in God's name would they use a keyboard??". Victoria Song over at The Verge reckons it's really shit, so when the Tippy Type keyboard popped up on their TikTok feed, they got one. It's "a silicone keyboard cover" that features "tower-like cylindrical keys so you can type as you naturally would: with your finger pads and not your nails. The proposed benefits are two-fold. One, it shouldn't hurt at all. Two, it protects your manicure". Apparently it's quite good, but Victoria reckons a mechanical keyboard suits them fine.

Future Sex was a 1990s magazine based in San Francisco and published by Kundalini Publishing. The magazine was glossy with four-color printing and featured articles, interviews, reviews, erotica, and erotic photography celebrating the zeitgeist of technological revolution, body modification, sexual liberation, and the mainstreaming of sexual proclivities previously considered taboo—from bondage to fetishes to "teledildonics."
